Jaki Jo was awarded a 1st in BA(Hons) Graphic Design: New Media Degree at the Epsom campus of The University College of the Creative Arts.
Here she majored in illustration and had the opportunity to develop a style which reflects her interest in the grotesque, surrealism and black comedy. She likes playing with people’s emotions, notions of reality, and the idea of taboos. Her images are vibrant, symbolic / shambolic bold vector illustrations, hopefully they speak for themselves.
Jaki Jo's 'Self Portrait' illustration project won first prize in its category at the 2008 'D&AD Student Awards'. This work was also featured in the 'D&AD New Blood Design 2008' exhibition and was part of a presentation she gave at a London 'Pecha Kucha' night.
"Her intellect, shockingly perverse mind and wonderful use of colour. She has a career ahead of her." Jonathan Ellery, Browns
"Quality, humour, perverseness, gleefulness and risk." Paul Davis, Paul Davis Studio
"Humour, exection and originality made the winner stand out. I felt it was clear and concise and commercial despite the subject matter." Katy Baggott, Katy Baggott Ltd
"Very high quality." Matt Willey, Studio8 Design
